Something in Salesforcewebform (pretty sure) is causing form components to be checked off as mandatory whenever they are saved. (They can still be unchecked and saved on the node/[nid]/edit/components page.)

Take that back-- i think it is Webform that does this, to hidden fields, and mandatory doesn't mean anything one way or the other to hidden fields.

Yes, hidden fields are always mandatory, but the behavior doesn't change regardless of what you set it to. Glad you got it sorted out.
