show section even on node/nid

Hi,
Say I am on example.com/node/562, if this node has an alias, even though i am on example.com/node/562 and not on example.com/alias/of/five-six-two shouldn't the proper section assigned to alias/* still work? It does not appear to work this way, and only works when on the node via the url alias as opposed to the un-aliased path.
