Is it possible to force aggregator to fetch only one new item at a time as opposed to grabbing all new items in a feed?

What I want is for the main aggregator page to be a little more mixed up, I don't like how they are just dumped in there in groups of 10 when cron updates the feeds. Cron is set to run every hour and I want only the one newest, if any, to be grabbed when cron runs....

I believe aggregator2 will do that for you.

I installed aggregator 2, all it did was flood my forums with hundreds of useless feed links with a new topic for each one.

aggregator 2 is NOT what I am looking for. I want to keep the feeds out of my forum and I do not need comments enabled for them either....

So I am no back to modifying my current version of aggregator. Any ideas?
