Freemind also has a Flash Browser: http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Flash_browser - and perhaps it is more useable than a Java Applet which most typical web users may find a little difficult to comprehend?

That can make sense.
What about something like "pluggable displays", where you can configure which display you want?

yes of course - there are just two browsers at this time, and a simple either/or choice in the ui will be good.
