This looks to have been discussed in the past extensively, but I haven't been able to discern the reasoning behind why this is not an option.

In comment.module, why isn't there an option to inherit the parent subject (node and/or comment above) in addition to turning it off altogether or making it freely user editable?

When a forum is sent to a mailing list it kinda screws up the "at a glance" view of the email thread in your email client if you do things like sort by subject or whatever.

I realize that OSS email clients can do threading via the headers, but most of the population still does not have this capability or is not aware or understand it. We are talking about non-technical users.

Is this functionality something that can be added in the future and make it admin selectable?

I agree wholeheartedly. This throws newbies off and makes such things as the "recent comments" block next to useless.

Do you know if anyone has done a hack to the Drupal source code for this? I've searched but haven't found anything.
