Current plan is to mimic the behaviour without requiring views_attach.

re: 6.x-3.x, we didn't create a version for it, because we didn't want new issues from users to get assigned to the release unintentionally. When submitting issues for the new version, tag it with "ng3".

Nah, we'll keep it open. Once the functionality is in 3.x, we'll close it - it's not there quite yet.
