i think it would be a lot easier if there would exist only two directories in the root folder, just: core & sites, this would make an update much simpler!

in core there would be all the directories like modules, includes ...

what do you think?

I believe this can be marked as a duplicate of #22336: Move all core Drupal files under a /core folder to improve usability and upgrades which holds a bigger discussion and proposed solution.
