Date: Friday 31st March 2006, 6:30 p.m. - late
Location: BTR (Be The Reds)
39 Whitfield Street, London
Near Goodge Street station
Telephone: 020 7209 0984
Google map

We've found a great location for London Drupal meet ups: Be The Reds is an internet cafe, so both desktop and wi-fi access is available. It's the site of the first Internet cafe in the world, Cyberia, which was sold to a Korean chain three years ago.

This is a drop in event, so no need to book or make any kind of reservation, just come in any time after 6:30 p.m., everyone's welcome. If this meet up goes well, Drupal Drop In - London will be repeated again on the last Friday of every month at the same location.

Thanks to the Korean connection it serves a wide range of South Korean and sushi dishes - which fits in with Drupal's philosophy of no forks! (sorry, couldn't resist that one). There's a bar in the basement, so if you want to wet your whistle with more than a frappuccino, head downstairs. There's also a few good pubs in the vicinity if you fancy a change of scene. A networked games room's upstairs, if you want to step out of the Drupal meeting for a quick frag.

Plus, it stays open till 2 a.m. on Friday nights - so you can discuss Forms API and CCK well into the small hours.

Great, so we can toast leafish_paul at the bar with a round of drinks, and we can toast leafish_dylan in the games room with some BFGs ;-)

I'll see you all there. Sounds good. Drupal, sushi and booze, what more could a geek wish for?

I'll try and make it down, currently playing around with Drupal - but may form part of a new / exisiting site, so very interested to hear from current users and developers (esp any freelancers!)

I'd like to be there, but I'm afraid that I can't make that date. Next time.

The venue has a very nice glass walled side room with four or five PCs. If anyone is interested in giving presentations or demos it should be possible to hire this out by the half hour.

This might be specially useful for any companies or organisations that want to take part.

If you're interested contact BTR directly and make a booking. (Telephone: 020 7209 0984)

No idea how much demand there is for this, but if the presentation room gets completely booked up, we'll award extra 'good community member' points to groups that share the facility.

If I can escape from my final year degree work at Plymouth for a while I hope to be able to attend.

I'm relatively new to Drupal but have quickly taken a shine to it, I'm keen to expand my existing Drupal knowledge. So if I am able to make it next Friday - prepare to have your brains picked as well as pickled.

On the subject of alcohol, how much is the average pint of beer in London these days?

I may have to start putting some cash aside into a beer fund

Cheers
Jay

I'd love to come to the drop-in. It may be tricky as my wofe just had a baby and I'm reuired at home, however!

In any case I would be really interested in hearing from any London-based Drupalers who I could by a pint and chat to about the ins and outs of using Drupal as a CMS.

cheers
Mike

I've been working on setting up a Drupal UK community website, it's not really ready for a full launch yet - a custom theme is still being worked on, and some features are in development stage, but it is up and running, and will be useful for the upcoming Drupal Drop In event.

Anyone comming to the Drupal Drop In London can now register at Drupal.org.uk, upload a mug shot to their account, and comment on the event's page - we'll then be able to recognise each other - and perhaps even remember names ;-)

I'm afraid Leafish won't be able to make it this time round mostly due to costly train tickets and family commitments/time restrictions on my birthday...

We will certainly try to arrange to get down to the next one, though: not having to rush back on the Friday night/early Saturday morning will certainly help, if not justify the cost of the trains by staying in our glorious capital for a few days longer!

Have a good one, all!
