pahariwalla commentedhmmm .....looks like you did everything right...
did you notice the little speaker icon in the IM console? You can click it to turn sound on or off. Maybe it's set on off? click it on/off a few times just to be sure it's on. Also, are you sure that your volume is turned up on your computer? Try playing a sound file in another audio player and make sure.
Anyone else having a problem? Or maybe had a problem and now have a solution?

pahariwalla commentedwow ... what a mess ... do you think we'll ever get standardization ???
the good news is that one of the sites i'm working on seems to have the same problem... does not play sound in Firefox and no error is thrown. Other sites seem to work fine with Firefox. So, now that I can reproduce the problem, I can look for the reason, and hopefully fix it ;-)
I'll let you know what I find. Of course the reason may be different on your site ... this one i'm working on has more than 20 javascript files ... i bet one of them is interfering somehow ...

pahariwalla commentedhaven't isolated the problem yet ... might have something to do with bandwidth but i'm not sure yet ... will continue to workon it as time permits ...
if anyone else is having this problem, or has found a solution, please comment , thanks

Loopie commentedMe too, facing the same problem for the sound notification when messages received.
I'd configured according to the installation procedures provided inside the module, but still cannot receive any sound notification.
If anyone could figure out how to solve this, please share here. Thank you so much

aryles commentedHi Everyone,
Am using Fedora 11 and I too cannot get the sound to work. I have tested the same on Mac OS X as well as on Windows XP and Windows 7 with no luck. I'd really appreciate if someone could guide us along the right path to configuring this very nice module.
Aryles.

pahariwalla commentedI imagine that the problem may be occurring because of conflicting (other modules) or non-supported javascript. Can you create a plain vanilla Drupal site (no other modules) on the same environment and see if it works?
pahariwalla commentedFeeling your pain .... so I have a new laptop, running Ubuntu Karmic Koala, Firefox 3.5.8, and the sound doesn't work. Specifically, I'm getting errors on any command my javascript makes to play sounds with teh player_mp3_js.sql object. To make things worse, the Friendlist was not refreshing itself (the reason I was looking at the program to start with), and it was because the swf err killed the javascript.
Eventually .. I disabled the plugin Shockwave Flash 9.0 r999 and then download and installed 10.0 r45 from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and all is *good*. Meanwhile, I've trapped the swf error so that it doesn't kill the javascript for anyone else who is having this issue.
pahariwalla commentedAnother error was fixed #733680: automatic refresh of friendlist that was also causing a problem for playing sounds. This fix will be in rev 1.1.2.16

jouflas commentedPlease give us the step by step for the setup to correct the setup to correct the sound issue. I've deleted the play_mp3_js and installed shockwave. No result. I'm running this on my development machine. Mac OsX.
Thanks!

pahariwalla commentedI've created a new issue that I'll use to post the most recent fixes to the sound alert support. It also contains instructions for ow to set it up. Please see #755834: Most recent sound alert status and use that ticket for any future comments on sound alerts. Thanks.
