It seems like Nodequeue might be a better alternative to Views for this module because it allows the nodes to be sorted without needing a special cck field.

The Nodequeue module allows an administrator to arbitrarily put nodes in a group for some purpose

Yes nodequeue is indeed a much cleaner solution. Anyways a nodequeue provides a view by default that can be used with Slider.
Please add this information to the readme text.
