This is something I am considering - a mini sidebar to the left of the main content - maybe 120 or 135 pixels wide in total. Is this a good idea?

I actually think this is a good idea.

I have a website that I'm about to do and this would help out a lot.
But I also have websites right now, using this theme, that don't need nor have this and I would like to keep them as they are right now.

Title: Mini sidebar on the left? » Adjustable 3 column Arthemia theme

I've added a leftbar and renamed sidebar to rightbar. Theme can be used with 1 column (no leftbar and no rightbar), 2 column (either leftbar or rightbar), 3 column (both leftbar and rightbar)

Edited files are: page.tpl.php, style.css, arthemia.info of 6.x-1.0

Enjoy!

Thanks himagarwal,

I'll definitely look into this since I'd like to use it on one of my websites.

Thanks for the effort himagarwal !, going to give it a test run. Had gotten pretty far on my own mod but could not get the 3rd column to float left.

himagarwal Tested and your modification works very nicely, no errors and layout looks good with panels also.

I have updated the theme to be an adjustable three column theme, but this is being kept in a new branch for now, while it is allowed to stabilise and any bugs are ironed out:

If you thin there should be more changes, please go ahead, suggest them, provide patches etc.

(PS I never use the above version, so they both may contain different methods, different bugs.)
