module is not released yet but reading the module intro, it seems a duplicate function of another module.
Since its a small module for certain function provided by the other module it might save you time and effort & less confusion to Drupal user community

thanks for nice catch. My search efforts for the similar module were useless :) I've looked through module_filter, and I'm going to submit a patch to it to improve javacript code.

I am pleased that i helped by spotting it -before it released and saving your further energy and time.
And yes, improving/contributing an existing module is sensible thing to do. (it is also encouraged by Dries).
aand.. it is also greener, produces a lesser carbon footprint ;)

Functional duplicate of modules is a problem for Drupal. Developers often see a problem/lack of a function to be addressed with the core Drupal and decides his/her way of improving Drupal by developing a module. Ever increased number of modules makes it evermore difficult to find similar modules... and so on.
www.drupalmodules.com finder offers a better search -that is until drupal.org improvements in place - a work on progress afaik.
