I checked my website today and recieved this error " Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/bestdea7/public_html/index.php on line 37 " so it got me thinking what did i do last night, i dunt remember being that drunk. anywayz it wasn't me (atleast to my recollection) my site was HACKED. I checked the index.php and on line 37 i found this "
" instead of what was really suppose to be there. I checked when was this file modified and it was done earlier today after i logged out. but i could not trace it down to an ip or anything worth while. anywho, so far i've seen two files that were infected index.php & default.inc in panels/plugin/style.
I'm running drupal6 with alot of cont.modules.
I admit that i've not been up to date with updates but i'm not that behind.
If anyone else has gone through this please elaborate, and how can we prevent this, since this site is used for e-commerce.
thank you for reading.

Normally not Drupal
Normally, when this happens, it is due to a faulty setup on your server. The hackers gain access via FTP or other means.

Thanks for your reply, I've started by changing my password for hosting company and its been a week with no unwanted changes on the website. two files that were infected were index.php and default.inc in panels/styles/plugin (not sure about the folders, but it was a panels style file.)
