Add entire forum to Watchable Content Types?

I have a site in which the forums receive infrequent contributions so it would be good to be able to watch an entire forum, thus being notified of newly created threads. I don't see a way of configuring this. Would this be outside the scope of Watcher?

Yeah, Watcher isn't intended for this kind of use. I suggest you look into Rules and Actions modules. They allow you to set up events that trigger under certain circumstances, for example a node being posted with a certain taxonomy term associated to it.
