I've got some 6k nodes, I don't need them all in my sitemap and generating the sitemap with this amount of nodes seems cause a 500 error when I try to access sitemap.xml (isn't this page supposed to be cached as a flat file?). It would be nice to see a feature that allows you to limit the nodes listed in the sitemap to an arbitrary number, in my case I'd like to limit it to about 500 nodes. Either that or make the 500 errors go away on big sitemaps.

@stephencarr: You might be interested in trying the 6.x-2.x-dev version out since it has been rewritten to not break on larger sites.

I don't see this being implemented in light of the 6.x-2.x version.
