How about this?

  • User group meeting
  • DrupalCamp (formerly "Regional Drupal conference")
  • DrupalCon
  • Sprint
  • Training
  • Online meeting (formerly "Virtual meeting")

This is also being discussed at http://groups.drupal.org/node/24531

I'm not sure this works as well.

For example, the Pacific Northwest Summit is not a "DrupalCamp"?

I've updated it to

usergroup|User group meeting
regional|Drupalcamp or Regional Summit
drupalcon|Drupalcon
virtual|Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)
training|Training (free or commercial)
sprint|Sprint
related|Related event (ie. not Drupal specific)

Feel free to re-open if you want to discuss the details further.

We are close.

I believe that the Pacific Northwest >Drupal< Summit was indistinguishable from a camp, and could be classified as such. Drupalcamps don't necessarily have to have "camp" in their name, although they must have Drupal in their name, or what's the point. If you don't think that Drupalcamp is sufficient, I would prefer "Drupalcamp or regional Drupal event". I think that Summit is a term that has little semantic value in this context.

DrupalCon is officially camel case, and I would like that reflected in the list.

Regarding the event content instruction, it might be overthinking on my part, but I feel that the current language unintentionally conflates the focus of Trainings and Related events. Trainings must be Drupal focused, and using jQuery as the example is somewhat misleading. I think that jQuery training would be acceptable in the exceptional sense that the whole of jQuery is very much a part of Drupal development, unlike perhaps PHP or even CSS, but I think that we should avoid having the exception prove the rule.

The words "Drupalcamp or regional Drupal event" seem too similar to "User group meeting" - if I'm filling that out what's the difference between a "User group meeting" and a "Drupal event" - and aren't nearly all of these "Drupal events" ?

DrupalCon is not officially camel case. See attached logo from Boston.

For event submissions, I agree we should revise that text.

Here's the current:

Only add actual events with established dates. Proposed events, discussions of event ideas, etc. belong in Discussions. Because content can't be moved between types, miscategorized content will be removed.

Only enter the actual date and time of the event. If your event repeats, you must enter each instance separately (for now). Your event post may not specify a range longer than 5 days. This prevents the calendar from being dominated by any one event. If your event lasts longer than 5 days, then please specify a one day duration or 5 day duration and give more detail in the event description.

Commercial events and/or non-Drupal events may only be listed in the Training or Related events categories. These events must have a clear relationship to Drupal. jQuery training is okay, SXSW is okay, Cubs game is not.

DrupalCon is >now< officially camel case.

Really.
