I've unchecked 'node gallery image' as a available content type for book (at book settings page), but during image management, I can still choose a book for an image.

(During adding images, I can't, however Book label is still visible - it shouldn't, I suppose).

bug also exists in alpha10

Managing images is done through the gallery content type.

The gallery image content type should never be seen by the end user.
Goto: Administer > Site building > Menus
open the Navigation Menu
Un-Check the gallery image content type and save the settings.

after doing some searching and reading on this subject..
This is not a node gallery issue, but a Drupal issue and the way core nodes are handled.
Other modules that use core nodes have the same display.
