Ubuntu Web Servers website

VinceDee - March 8, 2006 - 17:19

The Ubuntu Web Server website is a place where Ubuntu Linux server admins, new and experienced, can get information about, and discuss running, Linux-based servers.

I started the website as a response to an obvious need in the Ubuntu Linux community: While Ubuntu is the most popular and fastest growing Linux distribution, it's primarily been promoted as a desktop operating system...the (quite capable) server side of Ubuntu has been almost completely ignored by the organization.

So here it is, it's mostly a standard "Fancy" themed Drupal install with a few mods (Nice menu, weight, FCKEditor) and a couple of warts (I'm a newb web admin, so I still can't get some things right. Having problems running cron, can't get email to work reliably, having to manually update my RSS feeds) but traffic has been brisk, so it appears that it's satisfying a need:

If you have any suggestions or comments I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Vince

Very nice.

The theme is very nice. Great use of sIFR (although you should leave out the background box on the post titles...or just make it the same color as the background).

The one thing that throws me off is the animated GIF logo. *ack* Go with a static one, seriously.

hmm, I think I better change the logo

You're not the first to mention the neon sign logo, so I better change it.

I would LOVE to change the colors of those post titles, but I don't know where or how (they were default). If you can suggest where I might find the css entry I'd be very grateful.

EDIT: I changed the logo to an Ubuntu logo that is partially animated (it rotates for about a second, then stops). I think that will probably work.

Great!

Great idea. I think it will work out well.

One thing I don't like is the logo. Text is just a bit plain, even with the animated text. How about the ubuntu logo with a computer chassis? Just an idea.

The only issue with the Ubuntu logo

VinceDee - March 8, 2006 - 18:25

Is that I'm worried about whether I would be infringing on a copyright or something. I'd love to use their logo.

Any ideas about the whole copyright issue?

why not just disable the

Why not just disable the logo until you've found yourself a nicer one?

They have official guidelines for the use of the logo on their site somewhere .. check those if you want to be sure

Or stage a contest for a logo :)

nice menus and sifr

geofs - June 20, 2006 - 07:30

i like nice menus and sifr but on ubuntu dapper with firefox the sfired text is above the menus.

i've got the same problem on my test site. The problem doesn't appear with konqueror, so i guess this is a firefox related problem.

any idea?
