Hi everyone, this is my first post on drupal.org. So go easy!

I have been building (and continue to do so) my first Drupal site over at

http://www.touchiphonegames.com

What do you guys think?

It has been a huge learning curve for me, I have been building website on and off for around 4 years. But this is my first go with near as dammit, standards compliant XHTML, CSS and Drupal.

I started out using <Table> tags for layout and an awful reliance on Dreamweaver wysiwig interface. But have unlearned all I knew and dived in. I was turned on to Drupal whilst applying for a Job back in December 09, it been a tough journey, but a worthwhile one as Drupal is amazing.

The site is not finished yet, still have a lot to do I know, but I am working on it!

Anyway thanks for reading, any feedback you can give would be greatly appreciated :)

Can you share the modules and settings you used to create the site?

I have been struggling, and not reading as much as I should, to get the sites I have set up with a front page that looks as good as yours. I really am somewhat at a loss as to where to turn.

I wish I could design a site like yours! Thanks for sharing.

I totally hear where you are coming from, I am only using basic modules that most people use, i.e. CCK, Filefield, fivestar.. etc... you can create a great site by simply using these modules. But to really create something that is custom, you have got to just read and read.

I hate reading, and was slightly arrogant that I can learn Drupal easy. I got so far before I realised I was actually getting nowhere. Bottom line is you need a high standard of PHP, MySQL, XHTML and CSS. No module will cover up your shortcoming in these areas. I don't mean to be patronising but all I can advise you to do is read everything you can.

I learnt tons from reading the forums here on Drupal.org also check out, Bobs video podcasts over at http://www.mustardseedmedia.com Although I have never actually spoke to Bob, he is my Drupal hero and these podcasts really helped with my understanding.

Another great site is http://www.lullabot.com or http://www.learnbythedrop.com

I am sorry I can't be of more help, it really is down to you to acquire a good understanding of the base languages and then get your head around Drupal. With a lot of dedication you can do it. If I can be of any help give me a shout. Bare in mind that I am only a noob myself and still struggle on a daily basis with it all! but it's a challenge so bite the bullet, get reading and you will be just fine! :-)

Hey thanks Kraymer this means a lot to me! Even if my site is not uber succesfull at least I know I have tamed Drupal to a reasonable standard in a couple of months!

What module do you use for Reviews !!!, your forum page doesn't work, you didn't provide any forum name

This site is still very much in beta, but the iPhone market is moving so quickly we just could'nt wait, I know this does'nt follow best practice but we just did'nt have a choice.

The stars on the reviews page are creating using the Fivestar module. The actual recview page itself has been created programatically via various .tpl files and css.

Our forums are not currently live, we are working on them locally.

Lol, trust me If I can do it anyone can! just keep plugging away at it. As I mentioned earlier, the biggest help I had with theming Drupal was Bobs podcasts over at http://www.mustardseedmedia.com Really awesome, helpful videos, plus they are free!
