Page after user applies for an account

Issue Summary

After a user registers, the usual message appears...

"Thank you for applying for an account. Your account is currently pending approval by the site administrator.
In the meantime, your password and further instructions have been sent to your e-mail address."

but it's inserted in the middle of the default front page.

How can I solve this? Is this a theme problem?
