I am trying to figure how to allow anonymous visitors to select if they want comments to be posted at their nodes or not without giving them full permission to administer nodes. This way, when a not registrated user creates a new node, on the node creation form they would be able to select if they want comments disabled or not.

Is there any module that is able to do this?

Any suggestion or feedback would be appreciated. I'm sure there is a module to offer more permission granularity for this occasions.

Maybe I should switch and convert comments to nodes or something similar?

commenting is on a per content type not per node out of the box. That said, I don't see anything in the repo that would allow what you ask, though my look was brief.
