I've been trying to follow along with random guides I've googled but they all seem rather confusing. What I'd like is to be able to upload batches of files at once into a photo gallery. I'd like for there to be a link in the menu that you'd click on to open up the gallery list but the menu would still be there. Once the gallery link is clicked on the menu I'd like for a list of galleries to come up with each having at least a title and a thumbnail/description for the gallery. Then you could click on the gallery and a list of pictures would show up either in thumbnail or full view.

I don't think it is too tough for you. You can do it using views and cck. I hope it will help you. Let me know if there is some problem.

I did mine using the open-source pwa.js
On my site at http://www.kevincarbonaro.com you can see how it all works. You do need to make some modifications to the file, and create an extra file which will allow you to make everything work as neatly as possible.
My photos are hosted online on Picasa Web Albums and I manage them using Google Picasa Software which is free. All I needed was to open an html file in a new window (styled with CSS) which called pwa.js javascript file. pwa.js accesses the user's public albums and displays them in the html file.
Hopefully I'll be documenting what I did soon, and make the modifications publicly available, however if anyone wants them now, just let me know. I am willing to help anyone who wishes to implement my solution.
