Hi,

I have searched the issues and most seem to be about the opposite of my problem (ie. users do have permission but cannot see an image)

In my case under Permissions of the Anonymous Role/User, I have "view imagecache listing_overview_mainimage" unchecked, yet Anonymous users CAM see this image.

Any help would be much appreciated.

This is only for private file systems.
If you have public file system, you can guess the file and just write the url in your browser.

Thank you dereine, that makes total sense.

Drupal can control access only on private file systems. I knew that, but did not connect that fact to this issue. Thanks for pointing it out.

maybe just deactivate the option in the permissions if the filesystem is not private?
