I said for newbies only
If you are not a newbie - get out of this class and do not read any futher.
-----------------------------
After working with drupal for the last couple of weeks I have come to an understanding and I want to share it with the newbies who come behind me.
Someone mentioned in a thread that drupal's identity is somewhat hidden or unknown.
In newbie terms I offer this analogy to help you in your journey.
When searching for a CMS you may have read reviews and tried many different packages and for whatever reason made your final decision to use drupal.
Despite all the trouble I have had I can honestly say you made a good choice.
But before you pat yourself on the back there is something about that choice that you really really need to understand.
Most of us have or use cars as a form of transportation right? - So instead of using tech language that may confuse you I will describe it in terms of buying a car.
Lesson number one:
The phrase ASSEMBLY REQUIRED is an understatement.
Please do not misunderstand what I am saying. The software is complete as far as being able to download it, install it and getting your site up and going.
What I am referring to is more like this.
Your decision for choosing drupal may have been because you read a review about a drupal hall of famer site that says.
"Drupal is the best CMS the world has ever known because with it you can have this Ferrari of a site.
The thing that you REALLY REALLY REALLY need to understand is that drupal out of the box is not this great Lamborghiniof a site.
Drupal out of the box is like getting a v-12 engine on a chasis with four wheels attached (the core software) and a tool set with a semi-truck full of bright shiny new parts(modules) that if assembled just right can be a Lexus, Benz, BMW, Rolls, Porsche or just the plain ole beetle bug if that’s what you need.
Because neither the review nor the owners manual (handbooks) will send you to this very pertinent information about this Rolls Royce of a site.
Hence the term ASSEMBLY REQUIRED.
With that understanding you have successfully passed lesson one of drupal 101
Congratulations.
Stay tuned for lesson two.
Happy drupalling. :)
