This module appears to be no longer maintained, but is still popular. There are fixes available in the issue queues but no code has been checked in since 2008-02.
If you're the module maintainer, we'd be really delighted to have you back! Please come say hello.
Otherwise, http://drupal.org/node/251466 gives instructions for dealing with abandoned modules. An issue such as this must be filed for two weeks before maintainership may be transferred by D.O admins.
If this module is no longer maintained, I figure that gives us a couple of weeks to find someone keen to do the job so we can get these issues out of the way.
I'm happy to become a co-maintainer of this project but am willing to stand aside in favour of anyone who is a regular user of menu_breadcrumb. I'm not a frequent user of the module, and my partner is due to have a baby in four weeks time, so I'm not an ideal candidate myself. I am happy to take part though.
If you feel capable of taking on the responsibility of maintainer or co-maintainership, please step forward by adding a comment!

aaron commentedI'll be happy to be a co-maintainer as well, although I have so many other modules on my plate I don't want to be the main maintainer. However, I figure there's always strength in numbers.

xurizaemonCool - Aaron I'm happy to co-maintain the module with you and intend filing a request for us to be granted access in the next few days.
AFAIK the hottest issue for this module at the moment is the conflict between menu_breadcrumb and admin_menu - http://drupal.org/node/303247 - would be great to get that resolved as there are apparently many people waiting on its resolution (judging from the number of folks who are chiming in on that thread).
I got the impression from some of the comments in that thread that we should just go ahead and ask for CVS access, but unless someone clarifies to the contrary that we should go ahead earlier than two weeks, I'll follow the procedure as instructed in the "dealing with abandoned modules" docs.

xurizaemonMoving to webmasters queue.
D.O Webmasters, aaron and xurizaemon would like to be granted co-maintainership of this module.
Thanks!

avpadernoI left a message for the maintainer on IRC, and I sent him an email.
Let us see if he replies back.
xurizaemonHi Alberto, have you had any response from the current maintainer yet?
avpadernoNo, I have not; if I do not heard anything from the maintainer in the next five days, I will proceed by giving to both of you access to the project CVS.
The email I sent to the current maintainer asked him to reply here, and so did the message I left him in IRC.

grendzy commentedaaron and xurizaemon: Since menu_breadcrumb may have a new maintainer soon, I wonder if you'd think about #560464: Consider merging with menutrails
Thanks so much for stepping up to maintain this great utility!

avpadernoxurizaemon is the new maintainer, and aaron is co-maintainer; gdevlugt has still access to the project, as it is normally done on Drupal.org.
