Do these two overlap in their function? I'm not totally clear(newbie to advertising) on what exactly this module tries to achieve in comparison to google ad manager. Does this perform the same tasks? Is it just for stats primarily? Are they different enough that they can be used in tandem?

... Is it for controlling ads hosted on your own server as opposed to hosted by somebody else(aka google)?

A bit lost...

Correct, this is for hosting your own advertisements. It can be integrated with third-party ad services (ie if you want to display some of your own ads and some third party ads), but it is designed primarily for serving advertisements.

I've never used google ad manager, but I assume that it's for managing AdSense ads, meaning that Google is providing the ad content.
