I'm trying to gzip -d the file "checkmail-4.7.0.tar.gz" after download but get a "not in gzip format" error.
The 2 other files I downloaded did work.

I bet you have a 0 byte size file because the server wasn't supposed to package this module - it wasn't tagged for Drupal 4.7. I upgraded the module and the tarball should update sometime in the next 24 hours.
What were the other two files?
