I never went to camp when i was a kid :P so this should be fun. I'm tentatively planning on using some of the time time to work on the DrupalED theme... http://www.drupaled.org/node/101

That is an amazing looking design. I can't wait to see it as a Drupal theme.

true; very amazing indeed..

Those chalky tabs look very unique! Nice design.

It's great to see professional / paid stuff appeaing for Drupal -- can only be good sign for the future. Just a shame its the wrong side of the world! ;-)

But is there another scheduled in the future with a similar set of tracks?

Congrats and good luck with all future Drupal Camps!

By the way, I've listended to/viewed the various podcasts at http://lullabot.com/podcast and they are all excellent and very informative, particularly for non-developers such as me. I'm sure Jeff Robbins did a likewise excellent job of leading this training for Drupal developers. He's very easy to understand and follow on the podcasts (as is Matt Westgate, also on the Lullabot podcasts).

I'm looking forward to any future podcasts on Lullabot.

The NYC drupal camp was FREE. Toronto drupal camp was FREE.

I am sure that the people doing the training there were at least close to as knowledgeable as the San Fran folks.

I believe that this is exploitation of the Drupal community.

I believe that some folks think they can build a business model off of sharing knowledge. To me that is opposed to the ideals of Free/Open Source Software.

Is this community being invaded by corporate clones that think $500 is a great price for what should be free or at least affordable? Sad sad sad.

A fool and his money are soon parted, eh?

This is the second time you've made this anonymous attack. Please stop. NYC drupal camp and the Toronto camp are very different things. These folks are contributing to the training course documentation and like ANY consultant are entitled to be PAID for their time. The RENT on the facilities must be paid. Transportation costs must be paid. The time preperation must be absorbed somewhere.

They provide many free podcasts and how to's at no cost to you or others. They provide modules, and support. They are involved in the community and not anonymous.

have I touched a nerve? why so hostile and angry?

I believe that these folks and the attitude you display are very dangerous to the long term health of any F/OSS project.

Many people contribute many things to Drupal without building a business model on hording knowledge and information.

I stay anon because of the hostility people like you show towards my opinion.

sepeck’s picture

There is no hostility in my response. Your words represent a deception in the original attack and twisting of intent and that is the 'nerve' you have touched.

There are often discussions on this board that are open to differences of opinion but your intial words were an attack not an opening discussion. You accused members of this community who actively contrib code, documentation and support of deception and predatory tatics and that was offeinsive and inaccurate. You then cloak your attacks in annonimity. These are the actions of a troll, not a participating member of hte community.

Such deception has no place here. If you are a contributor, then stand behind your words. If you are an anonymous troll, then you have no place here.

As noted by heine in response to your other comment, your intial premise is also wrong per established definitions of camp.

Dear 'concerned citizen',

Should? Ought? Why should it be free? Well, my services aren't; certain cnidaria may be able to live from sunlight; I can't.

I was introduced to the idea of drupal camp as one of free info / knowledge sharing.

I think that should remain the idea of any event using the term Drupal Camp. Otherwise it confuses people.

Do your corporate-priced-ripoff-the-community 500-900/person US $ events if you want, but don't confuse that with the FREE events once known as Drupal Camps

heine’s picture

It's good that you elaborate on your concerns.

From http://drupal-camp.org/about and http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-camp:

(drupal camps are opportunities for folks to get together and learn drupal. Some of them may be paid, others may be free)

I see no ripoff of the 'community' (of which you of course form such a great part) when I look at what you get for it. I'm sure some of the attendees could shed a light on that.

Yes, free would be nice, but I don't see why it should be free.

As a new drupal user, I am eager to find a live training in the bay area... not only to learn as much as I can but to network and meet some other drupal users.

So I vote for a Drupal Cap SF 2 :)
