Just a thought- when using admin menu with a big site with tons of modules, it makes page load times really slow- maybe 20-30 seconds, and can lock up firefox for several seconds. Is it possible to address this issue somehow?

Most probably, you have the Google Analytics module installed. See #336924: Massive page rendering slowdown with many links for more information. (and please bug the maintainer to fix it)
