First Montreal Drupal Meetup, March 23rd

omar - March 16, 2006 - 07:08

At a recent meeting Koumbit.org decided to sponsor a gathering of Montreal-based Drupal developers and users to take place on March 23rd.

Montreal is home to a lot of active Drupalers and it's time that we got to know each other a little better. There's a lot going on in the community and together we can make a big difference!

We will have introductions, discussions, "speedgeek" sessions, breakouts, reports-backs and plenty of time for some good old fashioned networking.

In order to keep you all going, Koumbit will provide coffee to get us started and some pizza and beer to finish things off with style ;-)

Visit koumbit.org for more details.

We hope to see you there!

Omar

Hope to make it

Would be awesome to meet some fellow Drupal developers here. :D I'm so lonely. ;)

What's the closest Metro? Looks like Lucien L'Allier on the Orange Line?

Closest Metro

omar - March 16, 2006 - 13:12

Hmmm.... I'm not sure which metro is the clostest. It might be Lucien L'Allier, but Guy-Concordia isn't too far either.

Here's a link to a map.

damn that's a pretty logo... perhaps you could make the source available for others to use for meetups... That looks like THE meetup logo for Drupal. I wonder how many drupal people are over there...

Sure, but what format should I use?

omar - March 16, 2006 - 17:39

I figured that people might be interested in reusing this logo so I had already considered making the raw files (without the Montreal-specific text) available.

I have two questions I would like answered before doing so:

1 - At the moment it is a *.psd raster document. I am not confortable distributing in a closed/proprietary format, so what format(s) should I make it available in?

2 - Also, if I give it up I'd want to do so under a CreativeCommon - Attribution - Share and Share-alike license. Does anybody know how I could easily go about embeding this license *in* the document such that it could be indexed/queried? I know that this is possible but I have never actually done it.

hmm

the first question, about exporting it... i think exporting it in the native format makes sense because any other format will degrade it... i think providing a few copies in png or jpgs without the montreal text in various sizes might be nice. ideally you want to export in SVG, but i don't know the results you will get exporting this thing to SVG... about the T-Shirt, if there were a Drupal T-Shirt, without the Montreal meetup text, I just might grab one...

format...

alexandreracine - March 16, 2006 - 21:41

What about the GIMP format?

I am a novice in graphics, but they seems to have a couple of things in common. Mabe it could work, and it won't cost you much to try ;)

A lot of the Drupal graphics

sepeck - March 17, 2006 - 22:11

A lot of the Drupal graphics are in SVG which keeps data nicely. Do you have the ability to export in SVG? (Inkscape does this)

By the way... if you *really really* like it....

omar - March 16, 2006 - 17:53

... feel free to buy a T-shirt from the good folks over at Goodstorm. ;-)

OK, OK, so this is shameless advertising... but, for the record, neither Koumbit nor myself will make a penny from any sales as there is 0% markup on these shirts. I just felt like trying out the Goodstorm system... which is pretty cool I might add. The only bummer is that it is all but useless for me and all other Canadians as they don't deliver to Canada. In other words it is unlikely to be useful for all those who are likely to attend this event.

Anyway, it was already in place so I thought I'd plug it.

The Frappr info I had previously posted here, titled "Drupal users and developers by geographical location," is no longer applicable due to the development of groups.drupal.org.

I'll be there.

Steven Mansour - March 16, 2006 - 21:50

Is there any kind of program up somewhere - just to get a general idea of what we'll be talking about?

s.

No, we don't have a formal program yet...

omar - March 17, 2006 - 20:01

... besides the idea will be to keep things a flexible as possible so that we can adjust to who shows up... e.g. we will be allowing people to suggest topics for the breakouts and speedgeek sessions.
