How do I edit ASINs programatically?

I am trying to transition from my old reviews under the amazontools system to the new system. I don't really understand how it is supposed to work due to the complete and total lack of documentation. Most functions are not even commented! Using the upgrade path script http://drupal.org/node/231612 I have managed to get really confused and that's about it. I can pull the rating and the ASIN from the amazonnode database table, but I can't figure out how to stuff them into my new node type. I created an ASIN field, but CCK fields are arrays... Can someone just tell me how to shove an ASIN into a CCK amazon field? (I also need to know how to update a fivestar rating, but I bet I'll be able to figure that out.)
