I want to create a social-networking site with a strong astrological flavour. Displaying an astrological chart screams Flash, but I want everything in the chart that is clicked on to bring up a rated list of interpretations -- a rated list of threads. I want users to be able to rate interpretations, comment on them and add new interpretations. So I need to marry the bulliten board to Flash. I need the Flash components and the forum to share screen real-estate.

Is there a way to customize a forum to have (a) rated threads and (b) share screen real-estate?

I guess you could make a node with the flash in it and make it sticky then list all the terms under it. When a user clicked on the area they wanted to see more about they could be taken to a term list of all the nodes with that term name...I'm not sure though.

remember when using flash to make the site work for people without flash as well :)

Why not just display your SWF in a block or as a header/banner on all fora? I'd suggest that you choose the path of least resistance :)

There are three astrological displays, a graphical circular chart, an aspect matrix and an aspect list. While the other two components can be done without Flash, the circular chart is too graphical to be done with HTML. I guess I'll have to have a non-Flash version of the page without a circle chart, thats a good point.

But the main question is, how do I customize the forum to divy up the screen real-estate and insert these other controls? Since my additions constitute three irregular rectangular regions, I doubt that I could fit it into a rectangular banner or header.
