Well I think the idea would be to support it too! Seems only right that Video Filter should support drupal's own video module, as it supports all the external sites?

Well, the Video project isn't "Drupal's own video module", it's a video module for Drupal. There are plenty of modules that try to solve users video needs, Video Filter being one of them, Video module another. I'm sure there are ways we can support the Video module in Video Filter, and I'd be happy to see patches.
