Description

Though the Role Root Directory is not marked as a "required" field, leaving it empty causes a 'No trees found' error when a user of that role tries to use the Web File Manager (as well as a Drupal message complaining of the empty directory whenever the admin form is loaded).

It seems to me that if no Role Root Directory is specified for a given role, they should be presented with the base WebFM folder.

Actually a message is shown:
"Role root directory not set for *** role"

The field is not required:
This way you can still save the settings form, handle the creation of the necesary and fix the path afterwards.
