Is this possible? In other words, I have say a role called AcademicsEditor. There may be multiple users assigned to this role. They should all be allowed to edit a page created by any of them, but not by any other role. Is this possible?

If it is by user it kind of removes the usefulness of role based permissions, doesn't it?

TIA,
Anil

There are "edit any page content", "delete any page content" permissions available at /admin/user/permissions. this should do the trick.

Thats what I have (by user), but I want by role.

Hi,

Depending on how badly I've misunderstood what you want to do, this is either quite easy, or quite tricky!

If you want users in the AcademicsEditor role to only be able to edit nodes of a particular content-type, but not other content-types created by other roles, then the core permissions will get you some of the way. For finer-grained per-role control over who can do what to which content types, the Content Access module is very handy: http://drupal.org/project/content_access.

If, however, you want AcademicsEditor users to only be able to edit nodes created by other AcademicsEditors, but users in another role will also be adding nodes of the same content-type, which AcademicsEditor shouldn't be able to edit, then things just got much trickier. Using different content-types would be much easier, but may not suit your needs. An alternative might be the Workflow module: http://drupal.org/project/workflow which allows you to create quite complex workflows for adding, editing and publishing content.

I have not been able to get to this, but thanx.

Hi,

Well, feel free to post back with more details of where you getting stuck if you want... If the Workflow module doesn't do what you need, maybe the Rules module - http://drupal.org/project/rules - is worth a look?

For this to be possible the User module needs to be edited, as far as I know, there needs to be an added permission for node module, which says edit own role's content. Good enough to refer to someone in core.

A possible workaround, as suggested above is to create a new content type, maybe "Academics Node" from admin/content/types/add and allow only AcademicEditors to access and edit it.

Cheers..

Please review module Role Ownership http://drupal.org/project/role_ownership that has been created for this purpose.
