Please go to this list, and hover over the arrow that is there (it's an ascending arrow, right?) the text that pops up says, "sort descending". Check the properties of the image, and the file for the ascending arrow is named "arrow-desc.png". Same problem with the descending arrow.

decibel.places commentedArthur,
We discussed conventions and icons on the previous thread.
I noted that the arrow/triangle with point up shows that the lowest member is at the top ("descending"); conversely, pointing down would indicate that the "bottom" of the list is at the top ("ascending").
This is the convention in Filezilla, Windows Explorer, and many other lists.
I think that "sort descending" is appropriate for a list that starts at the lowest member at top and "descends" through the other values.
This also coincides somewhat with the concept of "weights" in Drupal, with higher-value "heavier" items listed lower.
Another example of a sorted list in Views, sorted by "Business or User Name" http://www.locavorenetwork.com/growerlist/Idaho

merlinofchaos commentedIt's not wrong. It's saying what will happen when you click on it. Not what is currently happening.

teodor.sandu commentedHi,
i know this is an old thread, but i just cannot believe what i'm reading. More specifically:
I installed FileZilla just for this (otherwise i'm using Aptana's ftp client or WinSCP), and here are a couple of screenshots:
FileZilla - http://screencast.com/t/d6lbNFNgME
Explorer - http://screencast.com/t/0P4rZXTgX
So, you're basically in contradiction with yourself. Can you please decide which arrow means what?
I honestly don't know what this conversation is doing here though, as it's not a Views module issue. I've got erroneous results (switched arrows) for theme_table() with sortable headers. So why was the conversation moved here anyway?
Sorry merlin for your waste of time reading this, this whole conversation should be elsewhere - hence i hadn't reopened the ticket.

I am looking at your screenshots and at my Filezilla
when the triangle point is up, the lowest alphanumeric sorted member is at the top; conversely when the point is at the bottom, the 'heaviest' member is at the top
I am frequently confused by what 'ascending' (going up) and 'descending' (going down) means - especially when the sort is often based on timestamps - I look at the result and if it's backwards I change the setting
the OP was about the tooltip text that displays when hovering over these arrows - merlinofchaos explained the intent in 2009 your post in 2013 bumped this for me
another question: who is the 'heavier' guitarist, Clapton or Hendrix? :-)
