I highly, highly recommend going with Hostgator (my affiliate link.) I've been with them for a little over a year now, have about 30 Drupal installs running on my hosting account, and not once have I ever had a problem with any of my sites loading slowly or going down. They have great support, though I've never needed it because I've never had any problems.

First off: Let me say Howdy! My dad teaches Title1 Math at Fernwood. Step-mother teaches second graders at Chapman.

While most folks go for cheap hosting, I think it makes a lot of sense for Unions, and other non-profits, to look to managed hosting to meet their needs. A good managed host can reduce a significant chunk of the work load, leaving your staff to worry about content and fresh data as opposed to the system needs.

Unless you plan on employing server admins, an unmanaged colo box is out of the question.

Of course it costs more, but depending on the circumstances, we have seen non-profits burn through their budgets with support and consultation costs.

Just a few thoughts! Enjoy the last of summer (although today is awful cold for those in PDX)
