No Gallery tab or link on custom user profile page

Using a custom user profile page (user_profile.tpl.php) and I do not have a Gallery/Your Album link on the page (e.g. View, Edit, Track). I have searched drupal and gallery sites, with no resolution. Tried uninstalling everything (gallery2 AND gallery module), but no luck. Install is complete, box to add link to user profile is checked in both gallery2 and gallery module, Gallery Navigation and Image Block are enabled, users synched, and everything looks right...but no way to get to the albums.
Not sure where Gallery adds the link, so if I can find that, I can add it to my custom profile.
Drupal 5.19, Gallery 2.3.
