I am trying to insert an image using the filter tag but when I view the node after editing, no image is visible. In the meantime I went to the input formats configuration page, edited the Filtered HTML format and enabled the "Inline images" filter. This however does not help and I still cannot see any images.

I had a similar problem, but it was related with ImageAPI. Are you sure you have an Image Toolkit enabled?

Also try it without using an ImageCache preset, just to check if the problem wouldn't be with ImageCache.

I couldn't reproduce, since enabling the filter and cleaning the cache solves the problem.
Also, please use the main release stream in production, since dev releases are not intented to be used in production.
