Multiwebsite hosting in one database. Has anyone modified Drupal to this ?
I'm working on a drupal hack to force Drupal into hosting multiple websites on one database. If anyone is interested post a comment and let us know.
I'm sure we can eventually get a real module out of this.

It's actualy a built-in feature
All you need to do is to follow the installation procedures.
shorthand: Under /sites , create a directory for each of your sites and edit their settings.php to point to the right PREFIXED tables in your DB.

If your talking about the
If your talking about the present system of multiwebsite hosting... I know about that.
I know you can host multiple websites and turn on/off modules for each domain.
The present multiwebsite system hosts everything on one install. But it's still a MAJOR maintainance nightmare.
All it takes is one misdirected table and tables get corrupted, users will be scattered all over the place. I want to get away from maintaining multiple drupal upgrades, domains, userbases, and the connections between them.
So I am making a hack that combines the multidomain system with the ability to separate domains using the taxonomy.
Domains would be separated using the taxonomy and it's terms. Every domain would get settings from the default folder.
So when Drupal upgrades to 4.7, 4.8, 4.9 and 5.
I'll only have one database to upgrade without the need for 100s of upgrades.
If my words arn't describing this well enough, the result and demo will. :)
It's going to use external hacks that won't depend on Drupal upgrades and modifucations. Modules can come after. ( I don't know how to make modules yet. )
