the default font-size of admin_menu is 9px Lucida Grande. That is seriously too small for most people. I had troubles viewing the menu, so I increased the font-size to 11px, which works perfect and in my humble opinion looks better as well.

Or just have an option on the config menu rather than dig in CSS. I find 9px fine for my needs; my config menu goes off screen vertically as it is.

Lucida Grande is not a standard font (I don't see it on Windows 7). I disabled it on css. Now the admin menu shows fine (plain tahoma).

Thanks for taking the time to report this issue.

However, marking as duplicate of #557062: Drupal.admin is not known yet when admin_menu_toolbar comes with its js include.
