Hi there,
I'm trying to create a directory and have tried a number of different approaches.
I have created a custom content type with CCK "design_listing" so that people can submit logo images, descriptions etc, and select up to 6 taxonomy terms from my "designers_directory" vocabulary according to the product types that they make. I don't think I can use the Links module for this as I have quite a lot of information in each node, including a number of compound "Image, Caption, Taxonomy" fields so that designers can submit additional "icon images" to represent their work for each relevant taxonomy term.
I'm trying to create a Page View to display each "designers_directory" taxonomy term as a heading, with a list of relevant designers' names underneath (some designers will be listed under a few different headings). For example:
Art
all designers who selected the "art" taxonomy term
Fashion
all designers who selected the "fashion" taxonomy term
I can display the list of designers but cannot get headings to display in a meaningful way.
Approach 1
I first tried to filter results using Node: Type and Node: Published, and use Sort Criteria Taxonomy: Term ID, but Sort doesn't give me an option to display the taxonomy terms as headings. If I choose to display Field Taxonomy: All terms, then I can also group by that field using the Style Options, but this results in multiple combination headings such as:
Art
any designers with the "art" taxonomy term ONLY
Fashion
any designers with the "fashion" taxonomy term ONLY
Art
Fashion
any designers with both "art" and "fashion" taxonomy terms.
and so on for every possible combination.
Approach 2
I'm new to arguments, but tried using Taxonomy: Term ID, with Validator: Taxonomy term and Argument: Term ID. I have allowed multiple terms per argument, and set the Path to Path: taxonomy/term/%. When I preview using the argument "all", I get the designers all listed as expected, but once again, I don't know how to group these under taxonomy term headings.
I believe I could use this approach to create a view for each taxonomy term, then include all of those views on a single page, but I think this is probably unnecessary. Also, I want (and have working) an addition exposed filter for Taxonomy: Term so that viewers can choose just their categories of interest - and I presume this will only continue to work if I create the page using a single view.
I have read many tutorials and posts, but haven't found anything that matches my requirements - so I don't know if this is something that should be fairly straight forward, or if I do need to learn a lot more before getting this working.
Any advice is much appreciated!

How did you get on?
I'm going to be doing something similar next week and was wondering how your directory project is panning out? Do you have anything live yet? It would be nice to see.
Thanks
Andrew
