Could nodes be listed in the article view as well?

Description

I've installed and once visited the article page, only the "Latest articles" part shows a list of nodes as browseable links. It could be great if (configurable in the settings) the rest of the page will also show a N count of nodes within each vocabulary, not only the category tree. I could submit a patch if necesary, because I need this kind of functionality, and the only alternative I've found is to have panels (with ctools and all the stuff) installed and hardly configured.

Just to clarify a little bit, attached is an example of the expected output.. Node listing is limited to a configurable value (currently I'm using the same values used in the block).

Well, please submit a patch then and I'll include it in the next release :-)

P.S. I've always had plans to move to views/panels/whatever and leave this module behind. Seems it's not easy to achieve its functionality with views ?

Yes, this can be done with views/panels/chaos tools/ and so, but I'm affraid about installing/configuring/managing all this modules to get this 'simple' functionality.. This is just an extension to the "Article" layout. I love the 'article' idea, and this module is the only alternative to small sites requiring little setup effort.

I tested the panels alternative yesterday and took me half an hour to install, configure and have a close functionality, but had to create a panel page, then attach mini panels to it, create the views and ... well.. Of course the panels/views solution is much more rich and flexible, but it's too expensive (in modules and configuration) for a basic categorized "node list".

I've some ideas around and want to see how they will result in the end, and then I'll prepare the patch. Good to hear that you are interested in :)

The more I see the results, the more close I'm to the "FAQ" module ouptut. I'm not sure about how far should I go with this, but still need somethings to be test and try before discarding the idea.. Just need some time to clear some ideas..
