Is Drupal able to be used as a CMS for a larger blog-style site?

What I want to do is create a site for my local community where anyone can create an account, log-in and start blogging, uploading photos or mp3's.

Kind of like "myspace.com" for my friends. (I personally hate myspace.com, a pedifiliac's dream site apparently).

Is this feesable or not?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sure, turn on blog.module and upload.module theme your site so you look unique and turn on user registration and you should be good to go.

While I'm very new to Drupal, I can safely say you have certainly come to the right place

Drupal appears ideal for what you want to do.

A few things worth looking at is the myspace.module, http://www.bloggator.com which is a huge blog site driven by Drupal. Also worth checking is the http://www.projectopus.com site. also drupal driven and more music community/blog based with mp3 uploads & sales.

I can't remember where I spotted the myspace.module, do a search for it. and there is a new handbook section that explains how to build sites like that using the main modules that come with Drupals initial download.

The one thing I love about Drupal that drove me nuts about WordPress was that all Drupal stuff was in one easy to access place so I didn't have to go searching all over the internet for addons.
