Issue Summary

Please add Polish language to localize.drupal.org

Initial Polish translation was contributed by archetwist from http://drupal.org.pl/pl but currently listed on http://drupal.org/project/l10n_server "official" Polish team from http://drupaltranslate.pl is maintained by someone from Russia, who doesn't know Polish enough and makes horrible mistakes (Google translator is probably better). I think it's a shame for Polish community and contacted both http://drupal.pl and http://drupal.org.pl, but they don't have any idea on what to do.

This is why we will maintain Polish version of Open Atrium and we are ready to support also Polish translation at http://localize.drupal.org

Thanks,
~Grace

Well, as you can expect, I cannot judge quality of Polish translations. So more feedback from people working on the Polish translations would be good.

@Gábor Hojtsy

OK, I will invite people from drupal.pl and drupal.org.pl so they could have a chance to confirm my opinion or not.

[EDIT] Just sent PM to @archetwist and public invite here: http://www.drupal.pl/node/204#comment-2272

I agree that the quality of Polish at http://drupaltranslate.pl/ leaves something to be desired.

#4

Gábor, I assure you that what you can find on http://drupaltranslate.pl is definitely NOT a Polish language :)

#5

I think it would be great if @archetwist would agree to maintain PL on l.d.o. I will help as much as I can, since I offered our help also with PL translation of Open Atrium.

@archetwist?

~Grace =)

#6

Well, I am flattered ;-) .

Ok, in the interest of hearing both parties, I've sent a contact email to "Paweł Szarow" (http://drupal.org/user/461352, named "someone from Russia in the issue starter above). Asked him to come here and state his story. Will see.

In a funny twist of events, since the text was Polish, I've run it through Google Translate. Take it for what it is, an automated translation:

Hello you.

I read the whole discussion. Already talked about it with K. Palikowskim. (Peg) I explained to him why I do not want to move Translation server for l.d.o You can ask him.

Gace road, I would tell you that never used Google translate or other sites like this. I will say again all. If someone is willing, I can give appropriate powers.

On LDO no one will wipe your ass, how am I doing this for drupaltranslate.pl. I draw attention to any suggestions. Nobody here will not do this.

This did not make the situation much clearer to me.

Zapraszam do dyskusji na irc.freenode.net #dru_pl.

I invite you to discussion on rc.freenode.net #dru_pl

@Gábor

However above English translation is still better English than its Polish original (sorry Pawel, don't take it too personal), I can confirm, that Adam from our team discussed with Pawel all this story yesterday evening, and they came to conclusion that all of us should work together, including Pawel, despite the fact he is not a native Polish speaker, but is engaged in translating Drupal to Polish, while at the same time nobody else was willing to work on this, being Polish native speaker (I mean people from drupal.pl and drupal.org.pl).

Anyway, I believe Pawel has good intentions, but he needs our help (from Polish native speakers) since so far nobody else cares enough to maintain Polish translation.

I think it would be best if we will continue this debate on #dru_pl at irc.freenode.net and we will come here again with an idea on how to make it happen so both Polish translation would be better and up to date and also Polish community more engaged than our friends from Russia (which is still a shame for us, no matter what we will say here).

In Polish: chłopaki, dołączcie do nas na #dru_pl i omówmy wszystko co trzeba w naszym gronie.

Best,
~Grace

What are you saying?! Drupal 6 is translated to Polish.

#13

aha. Drupal. But modules are not translated. Only very small part.

#14

@archetwist and @Master of Tragedy

Please join us on #dru_pl at irc.freenode.net.

In Polish: Panowie, sorry, ale powiem jak baba: dajcie sobie już spokój ze stroszeniem piór, myślę że czas spokojnie porozmawiać, bez zbędnych emocji. Osobiście mam dość patrzenia na to, jak sami ze sobą (drupal.pl i drupal.org.pl) nie umiecie dojść do ładu. Nie róbmy sobie więcej wstydu, proszę. Tłumaczenie samego core Drupala to niestety, kropla, nomen omen, w morzu potrzeb.

Helo

It would be really terrific advantage for polish drupal community if admins of the l.d.o could add the polish language to the site and let us (native polish language speakers and all interested parties) start working here.

There is huge need for good quality canonical polish language translation pack, that is not tailored to personal needs and temporarily circumstances of single projects. So please add the polish language to the site and let us work in open manner - issue will be solved with advantage for many drupal users and webmasters.

hello to everyone

i've got no access to irc at my work, so i'll post here my opinion,

i think it will be better to make l.d.o a official pl translation project. and i vote for Archetwist, not for Master of Tragedy - if there are no other people to choose of course.

Why?

drupal 6 translation from archetwist is one of better localizations i've seen - archetwist made a lot of work, prepared a translation dictionary ( http://drupal.org.pl/node/344 ) for others to use and discuss, made a drupalpl-translators group at google ( http://groups.google.com/group/drupalpl-translators/topics ), and he is definitely a polish native speaker. Only reason not to choose him is that he's is no longer as active as he was about 1-2 years ago.

On the other side, MoT (admin at drupaltlanslate.pl) is doing very good job at maintaining server, reacting to user feedback, but he makes a lots of horrible mistakes - he is not native pl speaker and i am sure that this is obvious for everyone (as i said it here - http://www.drupal.pl/node/766 ) ; I think his skills and hard work should be used in another way, no offence MoT,

and of course i am declaring my help with localization of drupal 6,7+modules, but not on drupaltlanslate.pl, because i fear that my work will be overwriten with some of MoT "polish" translations,

It would be really terrific advantage for polish drupal community if admins of the l.d.o could add the polish language to the site and let us (native polish language speakers and all interested parties) start working here.

Our job here is not to give you a place to start over but a place to continue any useful work that was already done. Also, at the same time, we try to get the word out that the team moved to this place, so will remove mention of any other team from our documents. So having a clear picture of whether can migrate existing useful data and not alienate existing contributors in the process is a good idea. If you start all over on localize.drupal.org, you need to do wok again that was already done.

we will come here again with an idea on how to make it happen so both Polish translation would be better and up to date

I'd love to hear the results soon and help you make progress on localize.drupal.org then.

#21

We've had a meeting with omega8cc and Master of Tragedy and I am pleased to say we've come to an agreement. We would like to ask you to create a Polish localization project at http://localize.drupal.org. I volunteer to be its maintainer (as I am already maintaining the Polish translation project). We are going to try to import the existing translations and we will also invite all the translators to join us at l.d.o.

#22

Gábor, how should we interpret your silence?

#23

Status:postponed (maintainer needs more info)» fixed

You can interpret it in that I was busy with fixing other stuff around the server, so you'll suffer less when you join. Better for all of us :)

Now created team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/pl

Please expect that there might be bumps in the service. You are among the beta-tester of this live instance. Thanks for helping out and please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations.

Also note that I've set this up so that it uses a controlled model (that group admins moderate translations). If you'd rather work in an open model (that everyone can directly submit translations), that is up to you and you can edit your group node to reconfigure anytime.

Consequently, I've also removed the team's listing from the standalone servers at http://drupal.org/project/l10n_server please do turn that off and import data from there as discussed.

Welcome on board!
