The main part of the page is divided into 3.
The content of the left part is a menu, and it's content is dependent on the main menu selection.

in admin/build/menu/settings (Administration -> Menus -> Settings) set the source for Secondary Links to be Primary Links. When you select something in primary links, the secondary links will then be the children of that item in the primary links menu.
