The current mappingwidgets version (0.3.1) and the current carto (cvs) module are tested with drupal 4.7. I don't expect them to work under drupal 4.6.
The changes needed to use the latest mappingwidgets version which includes googlemap, under 4.6 carto/drupal are probably limited.
If you only want to use google maps you could use the GMap or GoogleMaps module of drupal.
A demonstration will appear at http://mappingwidgets.sourceforge.net when it is upgraded to drupal 4.7 (somewhere in April this year).
No additional software is needed for googlemaps; you only need to request a key for your website's domain from google.

Check out http://www.coloradobeernews.com/drupal/breweries to see how I implemented Google Maps (It's a work in progress). I just put the Google Map Javascript on my template page, which probably isn't the best way to go, but it seems to work fine.
Also, if you're interested in a tutorial, check out this one I wrote at http://www.stinweb.com/GoogleMaps/tutorial.html.
Hope this helps,
Justinian

hi,
thank you for the useful information. I will learn...
But currently I'm running site with 4.6 (already using gmap as menalto gallery module for photos) and do not plan to upgrade in the near future. What I've seen - that's good, especially if user just print GPS coondinates in filter (node) and insert the map by this way, smth like user-friendly map. I'm back to this question when 4.7 comes out and I will need it. ;-) THANK YOU!
