This may be a WLW-plugin rather than a Drupal one, but can CCK fields be modified through WLW? Specifically I'd like the option to upload an imagefield image which can then be used by imagecache to generate a thumbnail for the node.

You me and everyone else.
I have been looking through the WLW SDK and I haven't found anything in there that would allow me to add extra fields to WLW based on the node type. In my opinion it would require both a a plugin for Windows Live Writer and additional code for this module.
If you know anyone that knows how to write a WLW plugin and wants to write such a plugin get them in contact with me and we can discuss it.
