It looks like this module has approximately the same purpose as the Microblog module, the Guestbook module, and the Facebook-style Statuses module. Of these, the Facebook-style Statuses module is by far the most advanced, and your efforts would probably be better spent helping there than on a duplicate effort; however, it does not use nodes, as the Microblog module does. All of these modules have significant user-bases (Guestbook has over 3000, FBSS has over 1300) and are relatively stable.

Please consider re-evaluating this module to reduce confusion and increase the mojo being spent on making these important features even more awesome in Drupal. If you're willing to give up this module to promote cooperation and clarity, the way forward from here is to open an issue in the webmasters' queue asking to retire this module, and then focus your future work on patches to one of the modules I referenced above.
