It would save me quite some monkey-time if drush could handle downloading of WYSIWYG profiles like TinyMCE and FCKEditor.

This is something I have to do for every site I make -- a repeatable, (arduous & scriptable,) process.

I would be willing to work on such a feature, should it be helpful (and within the scope of drush.)

yup, thats a good use case. please ask those modules to ship with drush integration. not a job for drush core.
